# Versions & handing off to programming

The version control is next to the project name at the top of the Design page, for example **V1 Version 1**. Select it to see the status of the version and the earlier versions.

**Hand off V1** is next to the version control. It saves the questionnaire as a numbered version and sends it to Programming. To hand off, do these steps:

1. Select **Hand off V1**.
2. Read the dialog. It shows how many questions and sections Programming will receive, and the items that you did not finish, for example open design flags or an LOI over the budget.
3. Select **Hand off**.

Metaforms shows **Version 1 handed off to Programming**. You can continue to work on the questionnaire. Your next changes go into the next version, and the button shows the next version number.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Hand off** sends the questionnaire as it is. Open design flags, open comments, and edits that you did not review go with it. Programming also receives a Word file of the questionnaire with the **Client** comments. Internal comments are not in the Word file.
{% endhint %}

## Open an earlier version

1. Select the version control.
2. Select the version that you want to see.

The earlier version is read-only. A banner shows which version you see. Select **Return to latest** to edit the current version again.

Next, the SP scripts the survey. Refer to [The Programming workspace (SP)](/design-collaboration/the-programming-workspace-sp.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.metaforms.ai/design-collaboration/versions-and-handing-off-to-programming.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
